Thanksgiving 2019 at Food at First – FAF Thanksgiving meal 2019 was so much fun! FAF had 114 wonderful, hard working, thankful volunteers who prepared food for a day and a half then served thanksgiving meal to 560 patrons in 2019. Thank you !!! It was wonderful.

What FAF did: The day before, Wednesday, dozens of volunteers prepared, roasted and carved 32 turkeys = just shy of 400 pounds, prepared stuffing, the pie room, peeled and sliced 280 pounds of sweet and regular potatoes plus 80 pounds of apples to make homemade fresh apple sauce. Early Thursday volunteers roasted 140 pounds of ham, cooked 280 pounds of sweet and regular potatoes, sliced 80 homemade pies, and the weather was pretty good again this year.
32nd Annual Community-Wide Thanksgiving meal was Thursday Nov 28, 2019 – Food at First continues the fun tradition of hosting the annual Community-wide Free Thanksgiving Day meal. 2019 marks the 32nd year for the feast in Ames, which is free to anyone who would like to dine from 11:30 AM until 1 PM in the lower level of the church, located at 611 Clark Ave.

Thanksgiving 2019 at Food at First – Sign up to volunteer at the 2019 Thanksgiving meal, prepare the meal, serve or cleanup. Wednesday and Thursday shifts are available. Even though there are a lot of opportunities, Thanksgiving signups go FAST. Thank you so very much to all our volunteers !

Thanksgiving 2019 – Sign up to make / bake & donate a pie, or better yet, 2, 3 or 4 or more pies. if you can’t volunteer, but would like to help, sign up to make and donate a well baked pumpkin or fruit PIE ! FAF needs 100 homemade pies for Thanksgiving! Many spots are available to make pies. If you have trouble figuring out our PIE sign up process please email patty@foodatfirst.com

Pies for the Thanksgiving meal can be dropped off at Food at First on Wednesday, November 27th, 2019 between 7am and 4 pm. Place your pie in the pie rack in the main dining hall near the kitchen.

Ames, Iowa – It’s that time of year again! The 2019 community-wide Thanksgiving meal is for EVERYONE – those who are struggling, those who have a lot to be thankful for, those who are lonely, those who have “more than enough” family … everyone !! The Thanksgiving community feast originated 32 years ago, in 1987, by First Christian Church and since 2012 the tradition has been carried on by Food at First which is also located at First Christian Church, 6th & Clark, Ames Iowa. A big thank you to FCC for initiating and carrying on this very cool tradition.
